A MERV rating is a promise about particles. Behind it sit three properties that fight each other: capture efficiency, dust holding capacity and airflow resistance. A filter maker’s media supplier has to deliver all three at once — and keep delivering them, roll after roll.
The three-way trade
Make the fibre web tighter and efficiency rises — but so does pressure drop, and the filter loads up sooner. Open the web and air flows freely — but particles slip through. The art is in the fibre diameter distribution and web structure: fine fibres to intercept particles, coarse structure to hold dust in depth and keep resistance low.
What “guaranteed” means
We rate our HVAC media MERV 8 through 13 and guarantee the rating: the media is tested against the specification it ships to, and the specification is what your filter is certified around. Efficiency, dust holding capacity and airflow resistance are tuned together to your build — not picked off a stock chart.
Why consistency is the hard part
Any line can produce a passing sample. Holding the distribution steady across a production run is what a certified quality management system is for — process control on the extrusion line, weight and resistance checks through the run, and a documentation trail your certification can stand on. It is also why we keep the whole chain, resin to roll, under one roof in Newmarket.
